 Sam Gortman Jr.

Sam Gortman Jr. is a native of Columbia, South Carolina, and comes from a family where hard work ethic and good values were often emphasized.  Sam has been involved in several sports since the age of seven. While being involved in basketball, football and baseball, during the summers as a teenager he worked as a camp counselor for the Columbia Urban League and The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation. This is where he learned that he had a desire to work with kids.  He has been a member of several competitive programs as an athlete, and has had impacting coaches along the way to inspire him as well as create a strong passion for sports competition. Sam was a four year student-athlete at Benedict College where he was a member of the basketball, baseball, cross-country teams and earned a B/S in Business/Marketing.  After College, Sam was a part of the management team for five years at Walgreen Company meanwhile being involved as a coach for several youth basketball teams during his leisure time. Sam has had fifteen years experience of organized sports competition including the collegiate level and seven years of coaching. He currently works with the youth to inspire them to grow in a positive way and always challenges them to make great decisions. Sam believes that the youth deserve a great investment of time so that they can possibly become great leaders in the future. Sam’s personal goal is to provide a great opportunity for kids to enjoy sports competition while learning valuable life skills.
